Contact the military help line ( not sure what it is ) I would bet they have one for basic questions, it might get you on hold for a time but I am sure there is something set up where you could ask this very question and get a direct answer. youll need his fullname and date of birth, which should be easy enough for your wife to get out her sister casually then you can pay for a background check. for an individual to do a background check is not terribly expensive maybe $40 at the most, worth it to find out if your sis is dating a psycho.

This one is good, searched for my brother, a list of TONS of army dudes with his name and he was the first on the list. and i didn't need to know his bday, only his first name last name and branch. if he isn't on the list here, it would seem that he's never even talked to a recruiter. not the best proof though maybe if your sis-in-law is smitten.

I have no knowledge about military databases.

But, it warms my heart the videosift is a good place--full of helpful people.
Kudos to MycroftHolmz for checking up and to all who are helping him.

My only contribution--Do you know any veterans from the branch he is claiming? They could be at your place when he shows up. They will know right away and if they ask pointed questions--it's their right.

The easiest way is to ask him if he has any pictures from his unit. That's just something you can't fake. He still may be lying about decorations and awards received, though. Guys who lie about medals and ribbons usually haven't served and they're easier to catch, but sometimes real vets will lie about shit like that to seem cooler.

He showed us like two pictures very quickly on his phone. I emailed the ship he served on. I think it looking more and more likely that this guy is a fake.

A bit late on the draw here, but if those military databases don't pan out, maybe post some of this guy's claims here. There are a few of us here that could probably spot a Walter Mitty based on where he served, when, what decorations he has, etc.

A lot of military forums have a thread or two about this as well. They should have tips for spotting an impostor and would be even better at verifying claims (forums.military.com has some particularly good threads about this).
