First time humans acted globally to save ourselves

newtboy says...

Now let’s hope some frozen smallpox cemetery/mass grave doesn’t thaw out somewhere and start an outbreak. It’s a real possibility, and we aren’t prepared.

Alan Watts - The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions

vil says...

IDK seems like mostly crap, actually.
Smallpox and vitamins? Seriously?
Most other examples and allegories are similarly silly.

If we cant tell what is virtuous unless we stop looking how does Watts know what is virtuous? Is he not the one pulling a fish out of water to save it from drowning? How can he tell? How can anyone? Whatever. We cant lose if we stop running, right?

What Deadly Diseases Look Like On Your Body

noims says...

I'm reading a book where an 18-month-old just died of diptheria... given the make-up job in the video I'm just glad the author didn't go into the symptoms.

At least smallpox was wiped out before the anti-vax movement came along.

Terror in Germany: The Truth They Hide

gorillaman says...

Here's the thing. It's absolutely the case that their plan is to provoke an escalating conflict with us, their cultural superiors, but it turns out this is a bad plan because Allah isn't going to intervene like they think and deliver them a victory in a fight they can't otherwise win.

If the enemy are superstitious retards then we should celebrate, because it makes them easier to kill. Smallpox has been eradicated, polio soon to follow, why shouldn't islam be next? Let the moderate muslims join the fight; let them be cut down for it.

Khufu said:

The problem here is this: IS is carrying out (or inspiring) these attacks in order to incite hate. They are hoping the weak-minded closet-racists will react without second-though against ALL Muslims, thus creating an ACTUAL reason for the moderate Muslims(there are a lot of them) to join the fight thus upsetting the balance and giving IS more power. The best way to fight back is to not fall for this BS that all Muslims are out to get you.

Disturbing Muslim 'Refugee' Video of Europe

JustSaying says...

Americans never ran? Who the fuck are these americans you refer to? You guys are mainly british, dutch, french and german immigrants who committed genocide and mass-slavery to make sure you can force your worldview and way of living on everybody else. You people are to the world of the 18th and 19th century what ISIS is to today's world. Just because you changed a bit for the better doesn't mean you get to sit on any horse, high or not, and judge others. You can't even own the terrible, terrible shit your ancestors did and your patriotism ramblings show that. The reason you're so terrified of muslims is because they just might start returning your smallpox blankets.

I give a shit about political correctnes and that's why I wrote this.

shang said:

You wouldn't like my resolution.

Course main reason majority of Americans are against it is our culture and heritage. Americans have never ran. During British rule we didn't run to Louisiana territory begging Spain or France to accept refuges. We took up arms and bled for our land. Patriotism is not bad as political correctness morons try to push.

That's why for us, or many of us, refugee makes no sense. And our forefathers even exclaimed if any Americans became refugees they deserved no country, our creed "give me liberty or give me death!" The 2nd amendment left behind by our founders to ensure a free society.

"We need a revolution every 200 years, because all governments become stale and corrupt after 200 years. " - Benjamin Franklin

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - Thomas Jefferson

The word refugee makes absolutely zero sense to Americans. At least me being Generation X and all my generation and older. You do not run you die fighting. The beginning of the Revolution Americans didn't have hardly any weapons, it was sabotage and terrorism and the capture of gun stockpiles by militias the armed the beginning, then France helped supply us.

They should right, but the proof is they are not refugees! That's media political correctness lies. Just as said in that video
Quote by Muslim - "this isn't refugees, this is invasion"
They use political correctness as a shield to get in.

Queen Humiliates Obama During Toast

MilkmanDan says...

I can't downvote, but if I had to hazard a guess, I'd go with "monarchs just as bad if not worse as Hitler" as the bit of your comment that would be most likely to draw a "challenge" as you put it. You kinda godwin'd the whole thread right out of the gate which is a bit ... trollish.

I suppose one could maybe make a reasonable attempt at justifying that statement with regards to a few specific past monarchs, but even though I couldn't care less about the British monarchy I think it would be rather unfair to hold the current Queen accountable for what some of her predecessors may have done many, many years before she was born.

I'm an American citizen with ancestors originally from Germany, so by those standards I should personally be held to blame for slavery, Little Bighorn and smallpox blankets, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, AND the holocaust.

Cracked Chiropractor Commercial: Is This For Real?

shveddy says...

@criticalthud - Pretty much completely eradicating smallpox and polio, rabies is no longer a death sentence, there has been a 55% reduction in cardiovascular disease fatalities since the fifties, there is a 90% childhood leukemia survival rate, transplants, bacterial infections are generally no longer a big deal...

This is just what comes to me off the top of my head, with research I could go on for hours.

Of course there are flaws and in some cases corruption in western medicine just as you would expect with any such massively complex and lucrative human endeavor, but trying to equate it with the blatant quackery of "alternative medicine" only displays your intentional ignorance of reality and makes you the butt of any joke.

I have no patience for this kind of mindless drivel. Somehow, it has become trendy to ignore the benefits of modern medicine. Honestly, I don't care if you die needlessly of cancer because you waited too long to see some western doctors, but when scum like you try to contribute to the general atmosphere of rampant unfounded mistrust of science based techniques that have an astoundingly successful track record, then you are trying to spread your inane poison and I have to reprimand your idiocy.

Horsehair Worm Coming out of a Praying Mantis - Ewwwwww

kceaton1 says...

Yeah...the day we get a virus, bacteria, or straight up parasitic organism that can tell our brains to do certain things--I'm quiting the human species (I might be overstating it, but I certainly will become very paranoid concerning certain conditions, if you understand me), assuming it looks like this is going to be able to be spread via a fairly hardy species of: younameit. Zombies are one thing, but seriously I REALLY, REALLY, do not want these type of attacks to EVER reach us. Could you even imagine?

On the other side of things, I wonder if that is considered as the best dump evAr.(?) Second, it seems like it just a GREAT species as it seemingly has atleast two worms from the onset of infection (although it looked to me as though there was atleast one more still to come). I mean can the Praying Mantis even survive this event? Is it now the Prayed Upon Mantis instead?

All of the fungi, insects, and other species that use mind or nuerochemicals on their prey and then FORCE their prey to do any sort of commands to do miscellaneous things (like this one, get to water the natural home for that creature). It's literally amazing and terrifying at the same time. My scientific side is extremely engrossed by this and I'm literally in wonder at the amazing biochemistry at play--needed to do this hijack of the mind and to literally reboot it with a new program that told a FOREIGN BODY, something with literally no connection to the predator, it took control and got that body to go to a body of water so that the "litter" could hatch in their primal environment--a TRUE wonder of evolution, even though it is used in such a terrible way, it may have huge things in store for us research wise.

I'm waiting for the day that one of these little bastards makes a little leap and crosses-over and affects humans. Could you even begin to imagine the panic? I imagine that whatever it is would be much like smallpox and shortly after a few infections it would be eliminated from the face of the planet.

The more people are vaccinated, the more likely it is that HPV is not transmitted to the women's children, the more likely it is that HPV is eradicated in the future: No more genital warts and hopefully, no more deaths. Compare smallpox.
Additionally, afaik and researched, there are no serious side-effects.
To be against the vaccine is demonstrably going against the science. Again: No significant negative, much positive.

To be "with the science", you sure are making a lot of unscientific claims. The vaccine industry is run on dogma, not science.

... You forgot to say that vaccines are used by the CIA to microchip everybody so they can be more easily abducted by the aliens. Keep on lining your home with tinfoil.

Again, why is the left media so angered by this? The vaccination is stretching the connection of HPV with cervical cancer with some seriously dubious numbers. 6 MILLION women get HPV and only 4000 die from the cancer??? The reason the vaccine is a topic, is because Governor Perry tried to force, BY LAW, all little girls in his state to get it because he was getting kick backs from Merck - the sole producer of this vaccine.
I'm all for vaccines, but this one smells of sleeze. It's curious why the media is taking such an "OMG anti-science" stance.

Is God Good?

Well, God created everything..but before the fall there wasn't anything harmful. Food was plentiful, animals were tame, and bacteria was benign. It's part of the corruption and the curse that we have disease and everything else.

Should a parent by liable for giving birth to a child that turns out to be a murderer? That video is awful, but humans aren't camel spiders..they don't have to attack and hurt eachother. They know by their conscience what is correct behavior and have a choice to do good or not.
Before sin entered the world, there weren't any natural disasters or diseases. When the creation fell, all of those things came with it. In the last days, the increase of natural disasters and plagues and such are directly correlated to the increase in sin. It is one of the signs of the last days when there start to be a greater than normal amount of them.
I'm not sure what you mean by your example. That just demonstrates the inequity of mankind, and its not as if anyone is unreachable by God. Those children aren't forever doomed. In any case, the situation on Earth would be far different if people actually followed the rules. People think about the law in terms of punishment but it is there to moderate our behavior. To compel us to act according to our better natures. If people followed what Jesus taught there simply wouldn't be any inequity in this world.
