Kim Jong Un Death Scene From "The Interview"

newtboy says...

Nor do I, but I just meant to point out that they are not 'American', and they (those in charge) are within range of everything from small groups in undetectable small boats up to and including nukes. I think it's the former they might be worried about, it's happened before.
I also agree their prime concern was probably liability, coupled with finance because of lack of theater space to release the movie (since American movie companies backed out, cowards!).
Sony pictures is a subsidiary though, and does what Japan tells them, but are usually left to themselves.
Yes, because it's a tech firm, you would expect them to have MUCH better security. I think THAT'S the biggest scandal here. Did they get all PSN information too? Probably.

I really don't think Sony was too concerned about a nuclear attack. There was tremendous pressure from the groups that own the malls who put pressure on the groups that own the theaters which put pressure on Sony. The obvious concern being loss of money if there was a theater attack which could result in people avoiding movie theaters en masse.

Sony is a multinational corporation. Sony Pictures Entertainment (the target of the hack) is based in the USA.

I personally think Sony fucked up here, not just with their ridiculous notorious bad security (still with the plain text passwords? wtf), but by caving in to these scumbags even after the FBI said there was no credible threat. This obviously just opens the door for further bullshit like this from any asshole with a computer and a grudge in the future.

In any event, yeah the movie will be "leaked" (as evidenced by the scene above) so total streisand effect blunder. Apparently these genius hackers don't realize that when a movie like this gets made, many people have "screener" copies of it long before it ever gets released.

Xbox 360 and PS3 Are Just Very Crap PCs

probie says...

The only benefit I see that consoles have over PCs is that all the hardware is the same, so games and drivers can be optimized for that particular appliance.

What is more sinister to me is the idea behind consoles. Ween the masses off building their own PCs and have them become dependent on the console manufacturer to provide the hardware. After that, it's only one jump to the subscription model for hardware (which they've already got the software end of it locked up, ie. XBox Live, PSN, etc.). Don't buy an XBox720....just rent/lease one for the affordable cost of $30/mo. Then $40, then $50, then...

Zero Punctuation: Battlefield 3

mentality says...

There are many, many multiplayer only games, and I'm not even talking about MMOs. Console games have lagged behind PC in terms of online connectivity, but with the success of PSN and Xbox Live, multiplayer has become much more prominent in the console-space, and will be even more relevant with the next generation. When you are playing the sequel to one of the historically greatest PC multiplayer only franchises, yes complaining about the singleplayer is like complaining about the salad at the steak restaurant.

And when 95% of your "reviews" focuses on why a game sucks, you are a "hater". It's hard to take someone's "opinions" seriously when their idea of game of the year is Saints Row 2.

Personally I disagree. Single-player is very important to me with only a very few exceptions.

Given that the BF series was founded on multiplayer, and has always been about multiplayer, I think it might qualify as one of those exceptions.
Now, don't get me wrong, if you release an SP campaign and market it as heavily as EA has, it's fair game for criticism. But it's kinda like going to a steak house, having a fantastic steak, a great bottle of win and then complaining about the garlic bread. The bread shoulda been better, but it's not why you went out in the first place.
Anyway, Yahtzee has a well-known dislike for online multiplayer, given that he is a "jaded, friendless misanthrope" (his words).

If it's fair game then I don't think the steak house analogy really applies. If on the other hand it was heavily hyped as MP with far less emphasis on SP then I can see where one might have cause for concern.
The thing is no publisher is ever going to market a game that just has multiplayer, even if for many dedicated fans that is what the game is really about. They still have to sell a game to everyone which includes people like me who will play the SP, maybe flirt with the MP for a short while then stop playing.

Dust 514 at E3'11, from CCP in tandem with Eve Online

GDGD says...

I agree. I try to imagine some of the challenges though:

Xbox Live talking to the PSN talking to Tranq.

Attempt at seamless, smooth integration/launch (when does this happen in games any more?)

Not trying to start the system debate, but it is known that for FPS games, the mouse and keyboard are superior input devices. This would cause a large rift in what a player could do, that another could not. With the supposed point of trying to reach a different audience, or make Dust more approachable for consolers, it would not mesh well introducing PC players.

I hear that Logitech has some of the better KB/M that work with a PS3.

Wicked idea. PS3 only is a shocker though.

I don't find it very funny either, but your comment is rude. Learn to accept that other people find other things funny and you might be able to relax and enjoy life a bit more.

Playstation Network Hacked - User info stolen (Videogames Talk Post)

Wait wait wait...I let them off the hook too easy.
You know what, FUCK PLAYSTATION! Not because their security was breached, so much, but because of the way they forced our hand by keeping us from loading alternative operating systems because they said it was a "potential security risk". Well lookie now, fuckers. You probably managed to piss more people than not and painted a big target on your backs. Well now we're all fucked. Instead of securing the data better, you focused on trying to stay "ahead" of hackers with constant "voluntary" security updates. Yea, it was so voluntary that if you didn't do it, some games wouldn't work, PSN wouldn't work and your blu-ray player wouldn't work. You're a bunch of cunts sony...a bunch of cunts.
Furthermore, your fucking OS sucks...should've spent more time on improving that. Maybe I wouldn't be so disgruntled right now if you had...

Since I've recently been told that hijacking threads on VS can't be done, I'll just point out that this is the full definition of "voluntary" used by libertarians (and the libertarians who call themselves "voluntaryists").

"Kazuo Hirai, Sony Corp.'s second-in-command, in line to become its CEO, will brief the media on the catastrophic security breach in the PlayStation Network. The news conference will be held at 1 a.m. EDT (2 p.m. in Japan). Hirai will discuss Sony's investigation of the breach, its information management system, and the schedule for bringing PSN back online, Sony said in a news release today."

Be interesting to hear what he says in a few hours time...

Yeah, this sucks HARD. I bought one game over PSN as a one off type thing (I had to have Resident Evil 2 on my PSP, rarrgghh) years ago, and now I gotta worry about this? Is it true they used no encryption whatsoever for storing user info? Fucking TEXT files Sony, really?
The fact that they waited 5 whole days to tell anyone really makes me doubt whether they're being totally honest with what they have told us. I truly feel for you PS3 owners, hope everything turns out OK.

No...everything is NOT ok...somebody used my bank info to pull out money and spend it on booze and cocaine.

I cannot even believe this
