Nah, these are pretty great and much better than a traditional tablet for end-to-end drawing. Do you draw, Westy?

Traditional tablets are just messy... try to draw a straight line up or down... every stroke is a goddamned irritating process of trial and error. The tablet, your arm/hand, and the monitor, all have their own "square" orientation.

After ten years owning a couple Intuos tablets I have not gotten any better at drawing with it (while my pen+paper drawing skills have improved greatly). I have left my 21" Intuos unplugged for most of the time I owned it, in fact. This is because I have to look at a screen while my hand is in another place using the stylus. It feels like trying to draw with some kind of robot arm holding the pen. Looking directly at your hand, and directly at what you're drawing, makes it so much more natural.

The only way I can do any good "drawing" with an Intuos is to draw it on paper first then scan it in and "ink" it with the Intuos. Sort of defeats a large part of the concept of a digital art tablet.

it looked like the image was a 3d render rather than a drawing , and on-top of that its the type of drawing you could draw with a mouse prity much using splines as fast as you could with a pen.
I mean the basic wakom is gr8 if your used to working with paper and pens and its a good way to sketch things out with that style of drawing but really a good artist can probably produce the same end result with same effort using basic mid range wacom. the cintequ and above range are nice but they are far to clunky and impractical.
I think they should focus effort on a very portable wacom pad that's basicly like an I pad but specifcaly for drawing comes with latest photoshop and loads of drawing tools , + high rez digital cam built in.

That's certainly interesting. But I suspect the effect has quite a lot to do with people just not being able to draw properly with a mouse. Also, since this was done without observation online, there's evidence of people just ignoring the instructions and screwing around, like the V that appears at 1:11.

I wonder what would happen if someone did the same experiment in person with tracing paper; throwing out any submissions where the subject wasn't making a good faith effort to follow instructions.

Actually I think its impressive to use that generic drawing tool Ive tried using actual drawing programs and find it difficult.

The indie rock band Modest Mouse is getting the royal treatment from Bent Image Lab’s new director/partner Nando Costa. Just completed, the band’s new music video is a dark and expressive piece of film-making. Heavily rooted in live-action, the impressive six-minute video includes intense moments of stop motion, visual effects, and motion graphics techniques, all brought to life within the studio’s walls.

The visuals follow an artist who enters his personal sanctuary where he is presented with a hand-crafted drawing tool that assists him in materializing his mental impressions. Through drawing circular patterns, the machine discharges an endless web of yarn that guides him through his visual representations of his memories. The story progresses to reveal that he is divided between two worlds, one of dull reality and the second of warped memories. In the process of finding a way out of his consciousness, he is trapped between the two competing spaces, which eventually inflict lethal damage, acting as metaphors to self-destruction.

This lyrical and moving piece was conceived by Nando Costa working closely with lead singer/guitarist Isaac Brock to polish some of the film's intricacies. Featuring a seamless combination of live-action and stop motion that alternates between stage shots of Modest Mouse and a spiraling dream-like world of ever-shifting landscapes, Whale Song is a stunning representation of the combined capabilities of Nando and Bent. The variety and execution of the VFX portions of the video – from yarn reeling into complex patterns to a guitar that plays with no musician attached – strongly evoke the confused and surreal patterns of one's warped memories.
